The Venice laundry problem — and what we do about it.
If you live in Venice, you already know the math. The closest laundromat is fine, but it eats two hours of your weekend — load, wait, fold, drag wet bags back to the car. The big-app services (Rinse, Cleanly, Poplin) advertise 24-hour turnaround but actually deliver in 5–7 days because they subcontract every load to a third-party facility. The dry cleaner up the street charges per item and won't touch your weekly wash. Local wash-and-fold spots have inconsistent quality and zero scheduling flexibility.
FOLD is a different model. We're a 25-year LA dry-cleaning operator that built a pickup-and-delivery layer on top of our own facility — not a third party's. When you book a Venice pickup, the bag goes to our washers, gets weighed by our staff, and comes back wrapped and sealed within 24–48 hours. Standard. Free. What you get
- Wash & fold: $2.49 per pound. We sort whites/colors, wash on settings appropriate to your fabrics, dry to 100% (no damp shirts), fold flat, and seal in a clean bag. $60 minimum pickup (about a kitchen trash bag full).
- Linen press: per piece (sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, towels). Sheets, duvet covers, towels — pressed flat and folded. Common with hosts and homeowners with house staff.
- Dry cleaning: Per-garment pricing — quote on photo (text photo to (310) 991-8889 for itemized quote). Shirts, pants, dresses, suits, blazers. Comforters from $19.99 (final price by size and material — driver confirms at pickup). Pillows from $11.99. Rugs from $11.99.
- Mix it freely: Toss wash & fold, dry cleaning, and linen press in the same bag. We sort and price each separately at intake. No three-bag rule like the chains.
- Guaranteed 24-hour delivery: $20 add-on if you need a hard SLA (free for Concierge Members).
How it works in Venice
Venice pickups run on Tuesdays as the standard route day. Most Venice customers schedule a pickup the night before, leave the bag at their door or in the building lobby by 9 a.m., and find a clean, folded, sealed bag back at the same spot within 24–48 hours. We text confirmation when we pick up and again when we deliver, with a photo so you know it's there.
If you're in a high-rise on Abbot Kinney Boulevard or Venice Boardwalk, leave the bag with the doorman or in the package room — whatever your building's standard is. Our drivers carry FOLD-branded bags and ID. If you live in a single-family home off Rose Avenue, the bag can sit on your porch or in a locked side gate — just leave access instructions in the booking notes. We work around Abbot Kinney studios and the Venice canals.
Pricing transparency — no games
We've used the LA pickup services. We know the trick: advertise “$1.95/lb” and add a $14.95 service fee, a $5 trip fee, a $3 environmental fee, and a $4 fuel surcharge that brings the real cost to $35 per order before you've added a single garment. That's not how we operate.

What makes FOLD different from Rinse, Cleanly, and Poplin
Three things. First, we own our facility. Rinse, Cleanly, and Poplin are aggregators — they hand your bag to a contracted laundromat and hope it comes back on time. That's why their advertised 24-hour rush rarely actually arrives in 24 hours. Our wash & fold runs through our own equipment, our own staff, on our schedule. Second, our pricing is flat and visible. $2.49/lb plus $9. Done. Their pricing is per-piece menu plus $14.95 service fee plus $9 fuel fee plus a $7 surcharge for “non-standard items” that includes blankets. Third, we live here. FOLD is operated by University Laundry Services — an LA dry-cleaning business going on 25 years. We're not a venture-funded chain rolling out 30 markets at once and figuring out the model in your neighborhood. We've been doing this in LA since the late 1990s.

FAQ
Do you actually pick up in Venice?
Yes — Venice is in our standard pickup zone. Tuesdays are the assigned route day, and we cover all of Venice's zip codes. Usually we offer same-day or next-day pickup depending on what time you book.
What if my pickup is less than 15 lbs?
We charge a $60 minimum pickup ($60 floor on every order). If your bag is 12 lbs we'll still pick it up but the bill will be the 15 lb floor. Most first-time customers underestimate weight — a kitchen trash bag of clothes is usually 15–20 lbs already.
Are there any extra fees?
No. $2.49/lb + $9 flat service fee. That's the whole bill on a wash & fold pickup. We don't charge fuel surcharges, environmental fees, processing fees, weekend fees, or weight surcharges. The $9 fee covers pickup and delivery to your door.
How do I pay?
Save a card on file at booking (Apple Pay, Google Pay, or any major card via Stripe). We charge after pickup once the actual weight is confirmed. You get a receipt via SMS and email with the breakdown.
Can I cancel?
Yes, free cancellation up to 4 hours before your pickup window. After that, a $15 trip fee applies. No contracts — everything is pickup-by-pickup.
Damage protection?
Up to $250 cash refund per item, $500 per order. Higher than Rinse and Cleanly's $50 store-credit caps. Read the full terms.

Who lives in Venice
Venice is two demographics smashed together: the original artist/surfer community on the canals and the walk-streets, and the tech-money buyers who moved in over the last decade. Housing is dense and varied: walk-street bungalows, canal-side homes, Abbot Kinney condos, and the apartment buildings along Lincoln and Rose. Density is high and parking is impossible.

Highest pickup density: the Venice Canals (Howland Canal, Linnie Canal, Carroll Canal), the walk-streets south of Rose (29th-Rose ave, Pacific to Speedway), Abbot Kinney Boulevard's residential side streets, the buildings along Rose Avenue, and the lofts and converted spaces near the Venice Boardwalk.
The Venice pickup quirk
Venice parking is the single hardest in our service area. Walk-streets have no street parking at all — drivers must park on the nearest cross-street and walk in. Tell us where the closest street-parkable spot is when you book. The canals are even tighter; we sometimes use bike-pickup for canal-front homes during peak periods. Schedule pickups in 9am-noon windows for Venice — afternoon traffic is unworkable.

Venice customer profile skews creative-professional with high frequency, smaller volumes per pickup. Average pickup: 25-35 lbs. Many are weekly or bi-weekly. Heavy on activewear (surf, yoga, running) and lots of pet-laundry — Venice has the highest dog-bed/dog-blanket pickup ratio in our customer base. Average bill: $80-110.
Venice insider note
Venice's foot-traffic patterns mean our drivers can't always park within 100 feet of your front door. If you're in a walk-street or canal-front home, the bag should be left where the driver can grab it without entering the property — at a side gate, on a porch, or in a designated spot. Tell us at booking. We've also done bag-handoffs at Abbot Kinney coffee shops (Intelligentsia, Gjusta) for customers who prefer not to leave items unattended; just text us when you're there. Half-mile range from your home is fine.
